The Mall Walking team at Karrinyup Shopping Centre held a successful launch event to celebrate joining the Council of the Ageing (COTA), the voice of Seniors in Western Australia. COTA plan on continuing to promote and expand this successful and fun activity for local Seniors, now in its seventh year of operation at the Centre.
They were joined by Tony Krsticevic MP, Member for Carine, and Liz Behjat MLC, Member for the North Metropolitan Region, to help promote this free activity in their electorates.
Around 80 Seniors came together on the day for stretching, a brisk walk around the Centre, and then enjoyed a delicious morning tea provided by The Coffee Club.
COTA’s Active Ageing Manager, Phil Airey explains :
“Mall Walking is a great activity that brings our local Seniors together
for social activity and healthy introductory exercise in a safe, community environment. COTA (WA) is committed to Active Ageing activities that unite our Seniors and combat social isolation in our community. We are very grateful for the commitment of the Mall Walkers and the great team at Karrinyup Shopping Centre, who have made Mall Walking a highlight for local Seniors in their area.”
Interested Seniors are welcome to attend on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8am at The Coffee Club at Karrinyup Shopping Centre. More information is available from COTA (WA) on 9321 2133.
