Welcome to 2020.
As we start this new decade COTA WA aims to promote Age Friendly communities and a fresh perspective around positive ageing. Living well and celebrating our maturity is a privilege that many of us enjoy however we also have a social responsibility to speak up against discrimination or injustice against our more vulnerable peers.
As your peak body, we encourage you to engage with us through our surveys, Facebook or newsletters to ensure you have your say in matters of importance. This will enable us to influence and shape the society we want to live in.
The rate of people living in to their 90s has grown by 67% over the last decade. As the fastest growing cohort across the globe, seniors still have much to contribute and this was highlighted in December when our 2019 WA Seniors Award recipients were invited to a morning tea at Government House in recognition of their contribution to their community. The celebration was hosted by the Governor of Western Australia, The Hon. Kim Beasley and COTA WA is privileged to have the Governor as our Patron. You can view a short video clip of the event here …
This year COTA WA will see a refresh of the Living Longer Living Stronger brand which will be relaunched as Strength For Life. While the program remains the same, we have created a vibrant new look that reflects the positive focus of this very successful and popular program. We will share the new look images on our facebook and in our next newsletter.
Our Mall Walking program is as popular as ever and continues to expand. In another COTA WA program, from February we will be working with local councils right across the metropolitan area to deliver presentations on navigating the aged care system.
We will also be introducing some new initiatives that will see us become more engaged with the community right across Western Australia. Its going to be a big year at COTA WA and we look forward to sharing more details with you soon.
Happy New Year to you.
