How appropriate that the World Health Organisation has nominated 2020-2030 as the decade that is focused on ageing well. Mature Age is something to be celebrated. It should be a time of good health, opportunity, choice and equality. COTA (WA) is collaborating with a broad range of partners to demonstrate to the State government the need for a centrally located Community Hub (or one stop shop) for seniors to access information, community forums and face to face information and advice on support services.
As your peak body, we also provide programs such as Living Longer Living Stronger and Mall Walking that enable us to keep physically active and socially engaged. If you want to know where you can find the closest program to you, you can find it here.
We are also collaborating with local councils to deliver a series of presentations on accessing the aged care system. You can find a list of locations and dates here.
Have you heard about POOPS ? In this edition of COTA Connections you can read about how this wonderful group of people support the community.
We are delighted to share with you this short video of the WA Seniors Awards which was held in November last year. You can view the video here.
And finally, as we watch in relief as the bushfires on the east coast are finally under control and are thankful that WA has remained relatively unscathed, many of our seniors are struggling to cope with the heat and humidity of summer. I know my mother finds it very draining, as I’m sure many others do. Remember to stay hydrated and check on friends and neighbours during the hot spells.
