The escalation of the coronavirus continues to dominate world headlines, but at a grass-roots level I know we are all concerned about how it is likely to impact on us personally or on our family and friends and on our community.

Included in this newsletter is some information from the WA Department of Health – including frequently asked questions and details about the recently established COVID Clinics. Or you can visit our website:

If you need further information call the hotline: 1800 020 080.

In light of the increased risks for older people or those with pre-existing medical conditions (such as asthma ,diabetes or heart disease) we have made the decision to postpone the Aged Care System Navigator presentations (which were scheduled to be held at a number of local councils) until further notice. We are also reviewing other programs to ensure that we minimise the risk to the community. These measures are temporary and will stay in place until COVID19 is under control.

This pandemic is unfolding rapidly hence the constant release of new information as it comes to light. Please follow some simple steps to reduce the risks. These include:

  • Wash your hands with soap (or hand sanitiser) frequently
  • Avoid crowded places or large gatherings
  • Ensure you have a supply of essential medications
  • Seek medical advice if you have any flu like symptoms

We will endeavour to keep you up to date with new developments via our facebook, website and newsletters however, I’m also keenly aware that not all seniors are not connected to technology.

On 28 February COTA WA announced the new name and brand Strength For Life – for the program that was formerly known as Living Longer Living Stronger. This brings us in line with the other participating states across Australia as the program continues to go from strength to strength. The program has not changed however the new logo and images give a vibrant new look and the new brochures feature some of the WA participants and Strength For Life instructors. We hope you like the new look, visit:

And finally, if you would like to view a short video of the 2019 Seniors Awards, view:

Please stay safe over the next few weeks as our state and our nation heads into the unchartered territory of a worldwide pandemic.

Enjoy our newsletter and stay safe.
