UWA Data Science students contribute 200 hours to homelessness advocacy work

We recently said goodbye to our two UWA Master of Data Science student interns, Santhosh and Sneha, who joined us through the McCusker Centre for Citizenship program and contributed 100 hours each as valuable team members between February and May.
Santhosh and Sneha brought significant data analysis skills to their roles, helping us build a better understanding of the factors contributing to homelessness among older women in WA. They worked on a report with a number of practical interventions which will be part of our advocacy efforts with government and non-government agencies; they also wrote an academic journal article based on their research findings. We are grateful for the significant contribution Santhosh and Sneha made, and will miss having them in the office!
If you want to host a UWA student intern, the McCusker Centre has two more internship rounds this year. You can contact their team ASAP to secure 100 hours of intern support over the Winter intensive round (June-July; 3 days per week), or to create a project-based role for Semester 2 (July-October; 1 day per week).
Places in the program are highly sought after, with talented students eager to make a difference with community-focused organisations. Students in a wide range of UWA courses apply for the Centre’s internship program, including many studying IT, Data Science and Business Analytics, who can assist as you navigate the evolving challenges of digital transformation with software solutions, cybersecurity and AI.
